The Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) was established in Beijing on Dec. 16, 1991 with Wang Daohan as its chairman. The purpose of ARATS is to promote cross-Strait exchanges, to develop cross-Strait relations, and to realize a peaceful reunification of the country.
