    • A Photographic Journey Through Old China
This website is dedicated to analyzing complexities that could lead to one of the most dangerous confrontation situations between two mature nuclear powers; China and the U.S.

The current central issue is Taiwan's movement toward independence which China will not tolerate. China passed an Anti-Secession Law that stated it would not renounce the use of force if necessary to prevent Taiwan independence.  Chinese policy is to establish a political relationship with Taiwan and Hong Kong that is described as "One country two systems." The concept of 'One China' was reached, in an agreement known as the "1992 consensus," between the Kuomintang-led Taiwan government (KMT) and China. This concept allowed each side to have its own interpretation of the term  "One China."  Over time, to complicate the issue,  China has developed advanced military capabilities which are partially designed to prevent any outside interference... especially from the United States.

The United States is obligated by "six assurances" and American Law, the Taiwan Relations Act, to come to the aid of Taiwan in the case of a Chinese military invasion of Taiwan.

The conflict is real and the actual issue is far more complex and includes a wide range of factors that have an influence on policy decisions by all three actors.  Further, the policies developed by the three powers have an impact on all  East Asian countries and indeed the world.
